Treat a Vet to a Sundae

Today is Veteran's Day and National Sundae Day. Why don't you treat a vet to a sundae and celebrate two holidays at once? This is easy for me, since my hubby is a vet, but if you don't have a vet living under your roof don't let that stop you from having a sundae on your own.

The true origin of the hot fudge sundae is unknown, but  Two Rivers WI and Ithaca N.Y. insist the sweet dessert originated with them.  No one knows for sure who is right, but we do know that the most expensive sundae, The Golden Opulence Sundae sells in Serendipity's 3 restaurant for $1,000!!! It has five scoops of rich vanilla ice cream, edible gold leafs, candied fruit, expensive chocolate, and is served with a golden spoon in a $350.00 crystal goblet; which you get to keep. I love my vet, but we're capping the limit on his sundae at $5.00.

For those of us who won't be calling Serendipity 3 to order the Opulence Sundae here's a link to a few sundaes you can make at home for a whole lot less!

Sundae Facts:
  • In 1985, the biggest Ice Cream sundae was made in California. It stood 12ft tall and was made with 4,667 gallons of ice Cream. You could make about 70,000 regular size sundae’s with that much Ice Cream.
  • It takes 12 lbs. of milk to make just one gallon of ice cream.
  • The biggest ice cream sundae in history was made in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, in 1988, and weighed in at over 24 tons. You can’t order that in an ice cream parlor!

Remember to thank a vet today. It is their bravery that has kept us free.

How are you celebrating today? Have you ever indulged in something as opulent as the Opulence Sundae?

For a thousand dollars, I could hire a chef to make sundaes all day long for vets.

Ooh I'm totally craving a sundae now. Great idea to treat a vet today. :)

Holy Cow. I've been to Serendipity and somehow missed that menu option! Not that I would have wanted to order it because I could treat a lot of vets to a lot of hot fudge sundaes for that price tag.

I would love to have that vase, but instead I'll just live vicariously through the Youtube video (-:

What a silly, foolish indulgence to pay so much for a sundae. I won't be anywhere where they sell sundaes but if I was, I would buy one for a vet.

Yea, our sundaes have a price limit too. Why would you even want to spend so much on a sundae, or eat gold leaves?

Don't know any vets although Matt did do National Service. Nothing to make a Sundae with so will have to skip. Trying to lose weight anyway.
