Genre Favorites Blogfest

Alex J Cavanaugh is hosting a Genre Favorites Blogfest . Participants need to list their favorite: *Movie *Music *Books, and a guilty pleasure from any of the three.

Since I love any genre of movie, book and music, that transports me to another destination; narrowing it down to a favorite, was tough, but here is what I came up with:

Movie Genre: Action Adventure ~ I love sitting on the edge of my seat watching things explode, as the good guys run from (or after) the bad guys. As a woman, of course I love a good romance, but when I decide to pay $12.00 for a movie ticket, I want to come out feeling like I got my money's worth. After watching an action adventure movie, I always feel like it was worth the dough.

Music Genre: Classic R& B ~ What can I say? It's in the genes. I grew up listening to the smooth groves of Whitney, Smokey, and Chaka Kahn. Just listening to them puts me right back in my mother's house surrounded by food, family and fun.

Book Genre: Humor ~ As wife and mother, I have a lot of plates spinning at any one time. Finding a book that I can curl up with and laugh until my sides hurt, works my funny bone and my core. If the book has an element of history to it, like the Al Capone books, I can justify not watching the History Chanel with my husband.

Of the three, my guilty pleasure falls in the category of Science Fiction Movies. I love traveling to another dimension, universe, time, with words, creatures and foods that are out of this world! It does make dinner after the movie quite boring, but I know I can always count on another Sci-Fi flick to transport me to Infinity and Beyond!

Those are my favorites. What are yours? Do share, especially if it falls in the category of humorous historical fiction. I need a something to save me from another episode of Mystery Quest.

Thanks Alex for hosting another successful Blogfest! If you want to see what the other almost 200 participants had to say, click here, and hop around.

I enjoyed reading about your interests. I think I read romance for the same reason you read humor - to get away from the real world for a while. I like sinking into a story, knowing there's going to be redemption and a happy ending. ;)

Thanks for visiting my blog. :)

R & B is some great music. I love Chaka Kahn's version of 'Miss Ceileys(sp?) Blues' from 'the Color Purple'.

You are welcome. Thanks for visiting back. What a great idea to put your participant number in the signature line. I may have to emulate that :D

I've been surprised at how many women have listed action as their favourite genre! Must be all those hunky men! :p

I really like R&B too!

Scribbles From Jenn said...

Chaka Kahn is amazing, as was The Color Purple. I think I'll head over to YouTube and listen to some Chaka for a bit.

Scribbles From Jenn said...

Hahahahaha! Kyra, you could have a point there. But not for me. For me, it's definitely just the action.

Hey Jenn, action movies are my kind of thing too, though for some reason I haven't seen The Avengers yet...must get on it.

I've never heard of the Al Capone books...sound interesting!

I like anything with humor! Nothing like a good laugh!

Scribbles From Jenn said...

Oh my yes Jennifer, you HAVE to see the Avengers! It's coming out on DVD Sept. 25th. We can't wait to see it again.

The Al Capone books are middle grade humor; but I love reading them.

Scribbles From Jenn said...

Me too Sherry! Laughter is the best medicine:D

Thanks for participating in my blogfest.

You are welcome. I'm having a lot of fun hopping around. In doing so, I see you've been everywhere before me. You really ARE a Ninja!

♫ dancing and singing ♫ "I'm every woman, It's all in me...." :D :D :D !!!! ♫ ♫ ♫

And I so agree with you about going to the movies and wanting to get an eye full. Action movies are usually a good bet. (:

I love being able to laugh at a book. It takes a specific kind of humor to amuse me, but the books I do find funny are so great to read.

One thing I like about humor is that it can be incorporated with any genre. Humor is highly adaptable, and it's something we all need to help us get through the hard days we all face. I can understand why you like it.

When I watch action movies, I wish I could do all the amazing things I see on the screen. Alas, I cannot, because I don't have a special effects team following me around.

I too enjoy old school R & B- I get a warm nostalgic feeling when I listen to the "oldies."

Jaycee DeLorenzo said...

OOh, love action adventures, for sure! Great list!

Going to the movies is so expensive these days that I only go for something I can't wait to see on Netflix or something that would be awesome on the big screen like Avengers.

Actions movies are great. My favourites this year were the Avengers and the new Bourne movie.

I chose Romantic Comedy for my favorite movie genre but had to list Action/Adventure as a runner up. Both serve the same purpose - good escapism.

If you haven't read Erma Bombeck, especially her early books, get thee to a library. She found the honest humor in almost everything.

I love your first pick for movies. Action/adventure is such a great movie genre. It's what movies were made for. :)

Infinity and beyond! Such a great tagline.

I agree about spending that much at the theater. I want more than a movie - I want an event.

Tara Tyler said...

amen on the only paying for movies if they are worth it! so $$$!
and yay for comedy & a touch of smooth r&b!

sci fi, baby!

Cate Masters said...

lol, love your logic for reading humor. Though the History Channel sometimes has interesting shows, they tend to repeat too often. Not that the hubby notices... :)

Absolutely LOVE R&B. And, of course, my love of action movies is neverending. Particularly those with superheroes, as I'm waiting for the late onset of my own superpowers.

sydneyaaliyah said...

Hey Jenn, If it wasn't for R&B, I would never have been born. My father loves to traumatize me with that statement. Haha. Great list.

Michael Di Gesu said...

Hey, jen,

Nice to meet you... New follower.

Some really unique choices... You're about the third woman that likes action films I've seen in this blogfest.

AND R&B music is great! Humor is awesome in any form. Without humor, the world would be a very SAD place.

Whitney Houston is my all-time fave female artist! She IS The Voice (as proclaimed by the legendary Clive Davis). I also grew up on classic R&B, including The Whispers, Earth, Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder... I could go on and on...

Susan Gourley/Kelley said...

Avengers is popping up on lots of blogs for this fest.

Jeremy Bates said...

I enjoy action movies as well. Have you seen "Expendables 2" yet? Plenty of action from our older heroes and mixed with some good humor.

I am headed over to Amazon to check out the Al Capone book. Thanks for mentioning it.

Cheers.

A true R&B fan! It is all in YOU Elise :D

Scribbles From Jenn said...

Funny books are great to read. It's nice that there are many humor writers available to tickle our unique funny bones.

Scribbles From Jenn said...

Me too L.G.! How cool would it be to be able to beat up bad guys while handcuffed to a chair vs. getting lost inside the mall :/

Scribbles From Jenn said...

Those oldies do make me feel good.

Scribbles From Jenn said...

Thanks Jaycee. Another female action lover!

Scribbles From Jenn said...

I wish movies weren't so expensive. Some movies, like Avengers, demand the big screen, so I fork over the big bucks. Seeing Avengers larger than life was worth every penny! I can hardly wait to see it again on the 25th.

Scribbles From Jenn said...

I LOVED the Avengers movie! I'll have to check out the new Bourne movie.

Scribbles From Jenn said...

Avengers was AWESOME! It's one I have to own :D

Scribbles From Jenn said...

Welcome Ink in the Book. What a great blog name!

Scribbles From Jenn said...

I LOVE Erma Bombeck and miss her witty writings. She was the master of humorous escapes.

Scribbles From Jenn said...

Thanks Lauren. It's great finding another female action adventure lover :D

Scribbles From Jenn said...

Yes, L., for the cost, it's not a casual gathering anymore; it has to be an event.

Scribbles From Jenn said...

Thanks Tara. Yay, for Sci Fi, all the way!

Scribbles From Jenn said...

I agree Cate, my hubby doesn't notice those repeats either. Or maybe he does...

Scribbles From Jenn said...

I want superpowers too. You know the real ones like flying, not the boring ones that allow me to do laundry, cook, and correct homework, at the same time.

Scribbles From Jenn said...

Hahahaahaha!!!!

Scribbles From Jenn said...

Great comment. The world would be a sad place.

Scribbles From Jenn said...

Welcome Michael!

Scribbles From Jenn said...

Whitney Houston was amazing. I agree, she IS THE voice.

Scribbles From Jenn said...

I can see why Avengers is popping up. It IS awesome.

Scribbles From Jenn said...

I have not seen Expendables 2. I'm going to check it out. I'm always in the market for a new action adventure movie.

I hope you enjoy Al Capone.

Scribbles From Jenn said...

Yep Nutschell. Gotta have that humor!
